Your Civic Wrench Light

Look familiar? I’m sure if you’ve ever been in your Honda Civic or considered buying one that you’d seen the Civic Wrench Light. The new “curb-friendly” Civic now includes built in headlights, taillights, and even wipers. But what exactly is a “curb-friendly” Civic?

Your Civic Wrench Light

Look familiar? I’m sure if you’ve ever been in your Honda Civic or considered buying one that you’d seen the Civic Wrench Light. The new “curb-friendly” Civic now includes built in headlights, taillights, and even wipers. But what exactly is a “curb-friendly” Civic?

Well, it’s pretty fun to say it’s a “courageous vehicle,” but really I think of it as a four-door sedan with all the comforts of sedans: large front end, roomy interiors, lots of storage areas (both inside and out), and lots of style! And of course, that’s just what the Honda Civic is! While it may not be as fast as some of the sports cars and SUVs out there, it sure does drive like a hatchback!

That’s why the Civic brakes are so important – they need to be strong to hold the car still while driving at a high rate of speed. One way to check to see if your Civic brakes are up to scratch is to take a few moments to look inside and out. You’ll definitely want to see how the inside handles when you press down on the brake pedal with your foot. If you can see right through the headlights and have no problems stopping/racing at moderate speeds, then your brakes probably aren’t that bad.

But remember, the light on the dashboard behind the steering wheel is actually a warning light. If you have any trouble with parking, you’ll need to take a look at this. If you get the light on, then it means your brake washer fluid levels are low, and the front brake caliper isn’t wearing too hard, but this is also a warning sign that something is wrong with the other brake parts as well – so take a look at that as well.

Also, don’t forget your turn signals! If your lights are functioning properly, and you can turn them both on at the same time without them both going off at once, then it means your front wipers aren’t broken. If your front wipers are breaking, and the brake lights are going on at the same time, then you’ve got a problem with the fog lights, or the front brake Lights. This is a serious warning sign that something is wrong with your Civic, and you should definitely take care of the problem right away.

Another very easy way to tell if you have a problem with your Civic is if you get to turn your car off and on repeatedly, and you can’t get the battery to come on. If you’re getting into such a frustrating cycle, then you should definitely take out your Civic’s owner’s manual and look for the fix. A common cause of this problem is water leaks under the hood – in fact, this is how most people notice that their Civic is broken out. To fix this problem, you simply need to refill the radiator with new, coolant, and then put everything back together. Don’t try to use an old radiator because this will not fix the problem, and could make the battery worse (and the Civic harder to start and drive!)

One more thing you should definitely check for when your Civic starts to act funny is the headlights. Is there a funny fog light effect on the headlights, or are the front and rear lights staying on? The bulbs in the headlights usually get burned out inside the “shaft”, but they can also be burned out from the cold air hitting them when the car is parked. If your headlights are burned out, and the front and rear lights still stay on, then you know it’s time to call a professional to take a look at your Civic. A burned out headlight is very tough to fix, and it will also leave you with permanent, unsightly marks on your car!

One final warning sign of a broken Civic brake light is if you can start your car, and you can hear a tapping sound when you apply pressure to the brake pedal. You should check to see if your brake fluid is about to run dry, because this is almost sure-fire evidence that your brake light has gone out on you. Some cars have a warning system similar to an extinguisher that goes off when the brake pedal gets pressed, but in a Honda Civic that doesn’t work. Instead, you just get a message saying “brake light intermittent”. The best thing you can do in these cases is to call a dealership and have them replace the lightbulbs. They are easy to find, and you don’t have to wait for a week for them to come out!
