What Do Possums Eat?
What do Possums eat? They mainly eat insects and fruit but can be known to eat small animals or eggs if necessary. Marsupials are marsupials and that means they carry their young in a bag. Possum stands for opossum, which is actually an Algonquin word meaning “white animal”.
Animals with thumbs have opposite thumbs like primates (and humans). They live anywhere from 1-3 years depending on how they take care of themselves. Some people keep marsupials because they make pawns! Unfortunately, marsupials are not always welcome near people’s homes as they sometimes get into trash cans or break through loose insulation in the attic in search of leftovers or building materials. nest

Is it Possum or Opossum?
Possum and opossum refer to the same animal. The word ‘opossum’ is a North American usage, while in Australia and New Zealand it is called a possum. Opossums are found across South America and most of North America except for Canada and Alaska. It has been introduced into Europe and there they are often considered to be pests because they carry bovine tuberculosis which is deadly for cattle, but does not affect humans or domestic animals such as sheep or goats.
The biggest problem with the presence of opossums in Europe is one of public image. If you’ve ever seen an opossum in person, you will probably remember it – they seem remarkably undistinguished until you get close

What Are Possums Exactly?

Possums are a part of the marsupials which means that they carry their young in a pouch. There are more than 60 species of possum all spread out over Australia, New Zealand and New Guinea. The number of existing species has been continuously declining for some time now mainly because humans have been hunting them down as vermin or trapping them to sell off their fur.
In fact, most countries classify possums as pests today. They also destroy crops and threaten local wildlife populations by either competing with them for food or simply eating them including birds, reptiles and insects on occasion.
Where Do Possums Come From?
Fossils of the oldest possum-like mammal date back to the Early Eocene (54 million years ago) and known members of this family go all the way through to the present day. The common ancestor of today’s possums would have lived in Australia and New Guinea, but it is thought that many species moved to South America when Antarctica separated from these two lands.
Today’s possums occurred on both continents, but only one genus made it back to Australasia: Acrobates pygmaeus , or Feathertail Glider.
What Do Possums Eat?
Before we start with the question what to feed a pet posum I want to say that this animal is very particular about its digestion. Most of us think of possums as omnivores as they eat both plants and meat but in reality, it is much more complicated than that. In general, this kind of diet can be described as follows:

In Australia possums have been known for feeding from army storage dumps. They will also eat livestock feed such as milk from troughs set out for farm animals. The main part of a typical Australian possum diet consists though of Eucalyptus leaves! These leaves contain a toxic oil but it seems that the compounds are mostly removed by special digestive which break them down into harmless
Its Habitat, a Cozy Little Nest
These creatures are mainly nocturnal, so they spend most of their time sleeping. Posums quickly fall asleep if you leave them alone for a short period of time, but they definitely need more rest than that. They would only sleep on the floor by themselves if there was not enough space in the hive for all of them.
What Posum would make a suitable pet?
Posum colonies often contain individuals with different personalities. Some are very relaxed and affectionate, while others are skittish or aloof. It is difficult to say who makes a nice pet among this mixed bunch!
